In July of 2009, attorneys in the Newport Beach law firm of Klein & Wilson secured a $6 million jury verdict in a legal malpractice case involving overbilling and the improper handling of four trade secrets cases by Lewis Brisbois Bisgaard & Smith LLP, one of the largest law firms in the nation, for its former client, ReadyLink Healthcare, Inc. 

After building up substantial fees on a low-worth claim, and despite a fatal lack of case preparation and organization, Lewis Brisbois Bisgaard & Smith LLP threatened to withdraw from representation on the eve of trial unless the client agreed to pay over a million dollars in legal fees.  Moreover, the client was asked to sign a settlement agreement and release, absolving the lawyers from liability for any claims of legal malpractice or overbilling.
